Corsair SP2200

Corsair's SP2500 speakers blow us away with some of the best audio we've ever heard from a set of pc speakers. Their feature packed design, huge subwoofer and separate mid range and high end drivers meant that sound was rich and distortion free across all ranges, even at high volumes. They're our favourite 2.1 speaker system but, at over £200, they aren't cheap.
Enter the corsair SP2200, which retails at a more affordable price retailing at around £70. Of course, there have been significant reductions when compared to the SP2500. The subwoofer unit is a fraction of the size but still sports a 6in side firing driver, Which is more substantial than many speaker systems i have tested. The subwoofer unit is sturdy with padded feet, and the driver is both protected and hidden by a strong mesh.
Each satellite speaker is equipped with a single 2in driver that deals with both mid range and high end sounds. At this price, it's a little disappointing not to see separate driver's for the mid range and high end, though as this usually results in smoother  more detailed sound.
The satellites are rated at 8W each, while the subwoofer can pound out up to 30W, bringing the total power to 46W.
At high volumes, the SP2200 wasn't quite as clear as we'd like, but it was acceptably powerful and clear for a £70 speaker set. However, the mid range was weak and lacked detail, with the powerful bass encroaching on the overall sound during action in games and films.
Conclusion
Overall, the SP2200 speaker system is capable for the £70 asking price and is recommended. The SP2200 gets a 78% score from Lee Johnston at custom modding.

Fastest AMD quad-core chip x4 980

In what could be the last gasp for AMD's generally uninspiring K10 architecture before bulldozer-ahem-bulldozes its way through, AMD has released its fastest quad -core desktop chip yet. The phenom ii x4 980 Black edition is clocked at 3.7GHz, features a 6mb shared pool of level 3 cache and has TDP of 125W. As it's a Black edition chip, it also has an unlocked CPU multiplier, which provides more flexibility when overclocking.
